This page looks at the New Deco classic bedroom and its upholstered wooden beds, and at how to plan a matching room today. New Deco by Francesco Pasi combined upholstered beds and carved-headboard beds with chests, nightstands and sliding-door wardrobes in natural wood with rich finishes.

Upholstered or carved headboard?

An upholstered headboard gives a softer back rest, while a carved one shows the wood. New Deco offered both, and repeated the carved details on chest and nightstand drawers so the room read as one suite. Today the Opera Upholstered Bed by Francesco Pasi follows the upholstered route; the 200x200 cm version measures H 138 x W 212 x D 218 cm on a solid wood structure, 80 mm.

Wardrobes with mirrored sliding doors

Sliding doors save the swing space that hinged doors need, which matters when the bed stands close to the wardrobe wall. The Gran Guardia Wardrobe 2066 by Francesco Pasi has two sliding doors with bronzed mirrors, and its carving is made entirely by hand in solid cherry. Allow for the wardrobe depth plus a clear passage in front of it. A full luxury bedroom suite can be planned around it.

A dressing mirror for a narrow wall

The Gran Guardia Dressing Table Mirror with three drawers by Francesco Pasi is only 27 cm deep, so it fits a narrow wall. It measures H 99 x W 118 x D 27 cm, and its gold or silver leaf is applied by hand. If the carved look should continue into the lounge, start with a classic italian coffee table in a matching finish.
